ListBot, the service that provided the email announcement list, will no longer provide free mailing lists. Because I wasn't really announcing much on it, I've discontinued it.
Another format change, to XHTML 1.0 and CSS2 (geek-speak for the emerging new standards for web pages).
I have switched the email announcement list from eGroups to ListBot; eGroups had started putting advertisements at the top of announcement list messages rather than the bottom, and some of the ads were somewhat offensive. I'm hoping for better from ListBot.
Sorry, no new music this time, but I have converted the web pages to HTML 4 and Cascading Style Sheets. This should make them easier to maintain in the future, and the appearance should improve or at least stay the same for most users (if you are having problems viewing the new pages or if they look bizarre, let me know.
If you have the fonts Venetian 301, Centaur, or Garamond (these often accompany other software, the first two from Corel and the last in Microsoft Office and on Macs), you should see these pages in something just a tad closer to Renaissance typesetting.
Lyrics! By popular request (and because it really wasn't all that difficult), I've started to add lyrics when I have them. They are in HTML format (it seemed the most robust way to preserve diacriticals), and are not syllable-divided for underlay. Translations are mine (I don't want to infringe copyrights of others), and I've not used modernized spellings if I had access to originals.
Lyrics are linked to the individual musical pieces. Currently the lyrics are in a directory without an "index.html" file, so if you select the link, you should see a directory listing and can click on individual files, rather than having to hunt through all the music. Also, the lyrics are not currently in the .zip archive. I may eventually change all this.

The survey is complete; I will post the results when I have them analyzed. I'm still not ready to switch totally to long file names; the Macintosh 31-character limit still gets in the way. But I have made two Win/DOS batch files, longname.bat that converts all the current midis to Win95 long file names, and shortname.bat that converts them back. Other changes are forthcoming.
We've moved! The Internet Renaissance Band is now on a new server. Its new home is much more capable than the old, and I could have moved it over a year ago, but the URL of the new server was longer: http://www.intranet.csupomona.edu/. Recent consolidation of web services at Cal Poly Pomona have shortened its URL to simply http://www.csupomona.edu/, so I decided to take the plunge. Parts of the Band (specifically the forms and counters) already were running on the new server, and I'm hoping that the switch will improve the overall response of the site.
